What is Micro FUE hair transplantation?
Follicular Unit Extraction, sometimes referred to as FUE, is the modern sophisticated technique of hair restoration.
Classic FUE (follicular unit extraction, or sometimes referred to as follicular unit transplantation) is a type of hair transplant surgery that involves extracting individual hair follicles from a donor part of the body, usually the sides and back of the head. These individual follicles are then implanted in the areas that are affected.
An improved understanding of the aesthetics of hair loss and cosmetic hair restoration, hair anatomy and physiology, and the development of microvascular surgical instrumentation has revolutionized the approach to surgical hair restoration since the original description.
The micro FUE method is the use of thin needles (with a diameter of between 0.6-0.8mm) and a micro motor.
What are the advantages of Micro FUE method ?
The graft extraction is automated and is performed with extremely fine instruments. That is why the procedure is almost atraumatic and the grafts are thin and gentle.
Thanks to grafts with smaller volume collected with thin needles, natural looking hair transplants that are as dense as desired can be done. In order to place the grafts, some doctors make very small incisions with a sharp instrument and insert the grafts into these incisions by holding them with fine tip instruments. An experienced surgeon for hair restoration plans the position of those incisions in order to insure adequate distribution and inclination of the grafts. Afterwards, the grafts are placed in their incisions using a very fine instrument.
The skin regeneration in Micro FUE procedure is very fast ( for the grafts around 7 days and for the donor 2 days ), and the final result is highly aesthetic and natural.
What do those numbers mentioned in hair transplant represent?
The amount to be transplanted in hair transplantation represents the number of hair follicles. Regarding the hair shafts, the number of hair shafts may exceed twice the number of hair follicles. In this sense, we alwazs talk about number of grafts not hair shafts.
Considering that each hair follicle (follicular unit) contains more than one hair shaft, transplantation of 3000 hair follicles means that 8000 to 10,000 hair shafts are actually being transplanted. The number of grafts that we transplant in our clinics is always between 3000 - 4000, which is the maximum number of grafts possible to transplant in one session, and allowing optimal results for the patient.
Your donor hair is a precious resource
The critical thing to keep in mind is that hair transplants can only relocate hair from one part of your body to another: they can’t create donor hair. Your hair is a finite resource, and our doctors take absolute care to safeguard every hair during the procedure. No hairs are lost, dropped or damaged.
Donor hair is taken from places that are unaffected by hair loss. In men, this is typically the sides and back of the head. The individual follicles are then transplanted to the area of the scalp that requires attention.
This is why you cant afford not to go with the best clinic if you wish to get the optimum results possible.
How long does it take?
An FUE hair transplant can be undergone in either one long session. It tends to be more time consuming than strip surgery, but does not leave the obvious and typical scars that strip surgery does.
The length of time for an FUE procedure can vary, but it usually depends on how many grafts are needed. A smaller procedure, where only around 500-1000 grafts are needed in case of eyebrow transplantation, can be completed in a couple of hours. However, a larger procedure of around 3000 to 4,000 grafts will require a session that lasts 6-8 hours.
How long does it take to recover?
As individual follicles are removed, it only leaves small, puncture dots, which are practically invisible to the naked eye. There is hardly any post-surgical pain and discomfort – with the average recovery time being less than 7 days.
The results of an FUE hair transplant
What makes FUE so remarkable is the way hairs are implanted: experienced specialists carefully map your hair growth before implantation so they know where and on what angle to place each follicle. It’s an exacting process that takes a lot of experience and expertise, but we believe the result is worth it: with a successful FUE transplant, donor hair grows, moves and feels the way it used to.
As this is your natural hair, just moved from place to place, it will grow exactly as normal hair and is permanent.
Does hair transplant give permanent results?
Hair transplant operation gives permanent results. The hair follicles transplanted in the operation are genetically resistant to the impact of testosterone that triggers hair loss. The transplanted hair survives on the transplantation site for a lifetime.
The best candidates for hair replacement?
Hair replacement surgery can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but the results won’t necessarily match your ideal. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with our doctors.
It’s important to understand that all hair replacement techniques use your existing hair. The goal of surgery is to find the most efficient uses for existing hair.
Hair replacement candidates must have healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head to serve as donor areas. Donor areas are the places on the head from which grafts and flaps are taken. Other factors, such as hair colour, texture and waviness or curliness may also affect the cosmetic result.
Remember, there are limits to what can be accomplished. An individual with very little hair might not be advised to undergo hair replacement surgery.
During the dermoscopic examination our doctors-trichologists will carefully assessed as to the cause of hair loss (alopecia), the family history, and the progression of hair loss.
The only way to know if you are a candidate for a hair transplant is to attend a confidential consultation. A qualified doctor can educate you on hair loss and the methods of treating it, and can then evaluate your personal situation. From this, the determination will be made as to your candidacy.
